“I am intrigued by the organic spatial designs created by the physicality of plants along with the trickling of light through the solid mass of rocks. These images attempt to capture the sense of life amidst claustrophobia created within the little spaces in-between the rocks within the physicality of the caves. It derives a sense of deeper understanding in the ability of nature to build, correspond and grow in the limited corporeal space to evoke an atmosphere of contemplation and symbolic existence.”

‘In-between’ is a photo-series of unique caves that permits contemplation of nature, which can be also read in symbolic terms as a contemporary indicator. This evocative photo-series is born from the thought -“The one remains, the many change and flee”. Abhishek Dasgupta has captured the frozen moment of time that is heightened by the meditative spiritual silence that engulfs the in-between of past and present.

This series, invite deep reflection and the viewer’s interpretation of both before and after - that is conceived statically rather than being dramatically. They correspond to the slight transition from ‘to become’ through ‘to exist’. The role of light and shadow played by the diverse interior of the natural structures of the caves provide an interesting understanding of lateral moment - that exists in both virtual and actual at the same time.

This series evokes dreams and interpretation of the existence of your contemporary self, which is often dominated by the debates of becoming – these photographs are the mode of slight indication of nature’s ability of grow, take shape and breathe within the restriction of the corporeal space.

Abhishek Dasgupta (b 1981) is most often seen creating myths of photographic spaces- that is in relation to both his romantic ideas and geographical philosophies. His images possess the quality of being open to suggestions, dreams, nostalgia, memory and interpretations.

This collection of five portraiture capture by photographer Abhishek Dasgupta evokes both the semiotic and symbolic attributes of human existence.

Photography is a medium that has the ability to provide nature ‘the power to recreate itself’. Therefore it is claimed to be the medium for Nature’s Self-Portraits, throughout the history of art.

These set of five illusive photographs not only has the ability to witness nature, but also transcends into a philosophical narrative on the stages of live and its psychologies of existence.
